Betty has worn many hats. She was a private teacher to the children of the Administrator of St Lucia. Subsequently she was chosen to be understudy to Dorothy Dandridge in the film “Island in the Sun” and travelled with 20th Century Fox throughout the Caribbean. On leaving 20th Century Fox Betty joined BWIA as an air hostess based in Trinidad. She was seconded from the airline to become Social Secretary and speech writer to Lady Hailes, wife of the Governor General of the West Indies Federation. She is married to businessman Jean Peter and has a daughter, Samantha, who is Education Development Manager for Google.
